
The American Sweet Potato Institute (ASPMI) is a non-profit organization that promotes the sweet potato industry of the United States to both foreign and domestic buyers. This organization promotes research in the science of sweet potato horticultural practices, processes and technologies to ensure the best quality produce for its members. ASPMI promotes the farming and harvesting of sweet potatoes in 13 American states including North Carolina, Mississippi, California, Louisiana, Arkansas, Alabama, Texas, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, New Jersey, Virginia and Tennessee. American sweet potatoes have a delicious taste and contain excellent nutrition benefits. They are very versatile, ideal for inclusion in soups, salads, appetizers, entrees, side dishes and desserts.
Sweet potatoes are a non-GMO superfood. They have very high Vitamin A content and contain 4 grams of fibre and the recommended daily allowance of Vitamin E. They are low in sodium and even though they are called “sweet” potatoes they are a good food for diabetics, since they are considered a medium glycemic food.
